In his home country of Uzbekistan, Muhitdin Z. Ahunhodjaev studied English and Arabic, earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture, and launched his career as an English instructor at a university. During this time, he had the opportunity to teach Russian and Uzbek languages to U.S. Peace Corps volunteers, where he met his future wife, Lisa Boylan, and continually worked in linguistics as an interpreter and translator.
Upon immigrating to the United States in 1995, Mr. Ahunhodjaev found success as a corporate finance executive at PricewaterhouseCoopers, followed by a stint as a Peace Corps trainer and subsequent employment in numerous companies—an office manager with the United States Industry Coalition and a financial management specialist with the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars. While finance was not his passion, the opportunity arose in 2003 to work as a senior linguist analyst at STG Inc., and soon after, he found success as a freelance Uzbek and Russian translator.
Since 2013, Mr. Ahunhodjaev has been active as a respected linguist and a pioneer for Uzbek language interpreters in the United States. A certified federal and immigration court interpreter, he has excelled as the executive director at We Speak Uzbek, where he regularly translates birth certificates, official agreements, and documents for court hearings; transcribes authentic, classified, and unclassified audio materials; editing agreements, court decisions, bylaws, publications, and government reports; and develops programs, organizational and financial plans, and represents the company to agencies, organizations, and the general public. He additionally conducts research, performs analyses, and teaches Uzbek, Russian, Uigher, and English languages, and has traveled extensively across 40 states for business.
In addition to these primary endeavors, Mr. Ahunhodjaev has served as the program manager at Integrated Training Solutions, based in Arlington, Virginia, since 2012. He’s a longtime member of the American Translators Association and remains engaged in civic organizations, including the Young Professionals in International Affairs. Looking ahead, he has plans to further his career in teaching, ideally at the Foreign Service Institute, focusing on his passion and expertise. He’s also considering exploring different artistic fields like pottery or painting to continue his professional growth.
